Wave

Spring 2017

Ukiyo-e is a Japanese art style which flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. The Great Wave off Kanagawa is a woodblock print created by the ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai. The flattened colors express the depth of the space. The complanation of the tableau and the rhythmic colors without any transition form the relationship of the depth and the dynamics.

This module uses a repeated subunit to make a three-dimensional pattern that changes composition depending on the viewer's perspective and the spiral subunits. This piece uses positive spaces to create both complexity and depth to its composition.
